Online desk : Silchar NIT responded decisively to a shocking incident on July 27 when a group of students attacked three cooks, namely Biki Ri, Mana Das, and Rajkumar Dushad, working in Hostel No. 9 of the prestigious institute. The attack left one cook seriously injured, necessitating their admission to Silchar Medical College Hospital. Following a thorough investigation, the institute expelled four students—Saurabh Kumar Meena, Himanshu, Rohit Kumar Meena, and Zubair Mahmood Pratim—for their involvement, banning them from NIT for a year.
Additionally, 12 students were fined 10,000 each for their roles in the incident. These students, namely Raghvendra Singh, Supratik Saha, Rajankumar Raj, Mirajul Islam Saim, Jyotishk Bhattacharya, Jyotirmoy Kalita, Pappu Mandal, Abhijit Dole, Kankanjyoti Kalita, Rohit Nandy, Abhinav Goswami, and Saurabhjyoti Shaikia, must pay the fines as part of their disciplinary consequences.The incident gained significant attention on social media, prompting a strong community reaction and emphasizing the importance of campus safety.
