Online desk : Tragedy struck in Silchar’s Rangikhari area on August 28th as Kinglong Gangmai (43), a cleaner at Silchar NIT, lost his life in a devastating accident. While cycling to work at around 7:00 AM, Gangmai was fatally hit by a speeding truck bound for Mizoram at Rangirkhari point. The incident has stirred strong emotions within the community. In response, angry locals took matters into their own hands, detaining an individual associated with the truck, whom they suspect to be the driver, who was supposedly drunk. Witnesses on the scene expressed frustration over inadequate traffic control measures and alleged corruption within the traffic police, blaming lax enforcement for permitting oversized vehicles into the city. The tragic event triggered a spontaneous roadblock, which eventually saw resolution through police intervention by 10:30 AM.
